It all started when…

I was thinking about having a space to sew, offering sewing services and instruction, after teaching sewing for over 20 years in the Fashion Studies Program at Harper College. A studio where ALL my sewing supplies, patterns, library, sewing machines, and tools could be in one place, and that space came to be 202 Cook St., Suite 214, right in the heart of downtown Barrington. . The studio has lots of natural light and windows that actually open. It has an elevator if you enter the building from Cook Street to take you up to the second floor, and a wide staircase leading directly to Suite 214 if you enter from Station Street. Plenty of free parking is available in the public parking lot just across the street. Restaurants, coffee and shops are right nearby.

Services offered:

Sewing Instruction: Newish to sewing, or want to learn how to sew your own ideas? Need a refresher on how to use your sewing machine? Personalized one-on-one instruction provided by the hour.

Sewing Workshops: 2,3,or 4 day workshops will be offered. Check the website for offerings that will include Sewing With Knit Fabrics, The French Style Jacket, Fitting Your Figure, Vested Interest, and a series of classes based on sewing techniques designed to improve your sewing skills.

Alterations and Repairs: Alterations are used to improve the fit of a garment, such as taking in, letting out, hemming; and repairs are used to replace zippers, mend holes, replace buttons, etc. Note: many zippers are produced specifically for manufacturers and are not available for purchase to replace exactly. Home Dec: Small home dec projects such as pillows, valances, and other small projects.

Custom Sewing: Women and children’s garment sewing, accessories.

“Tweaking”:: a small adjustment to a sports uniform , a dance costume, a minor repair.
